Battle Sports Science Impact Indicator

One of the smartest sports safety products available today.
The Impact Indicator takes sports safety to an historic new level. Small in size but big in benefit, it measures the force and duration of a hit to a player's helmet. Instantly, players and coaches can know when or if a possible head injury is detected. Once alerted, a coach can get the player to the sideline for evaluation maximizing treatment, recovery and preventing further injury.
On every play, in every game and in every practice, the Impact Indicator will be there to measure the force of a hit to help identify possible head injury.
You can't know just by looking. Not every concussion causes a player to lose his or her ability to walk, talk or answer a question. It's common too, for players to hide concussion symptoms to keep playing.

Play hard and play safe at the same time.
The Impact Indicator chin strap was designed to make contact sports safer for all those who play it. In a day of increasingly bigger, faster players and increasingly bigger hits, the Impact Indicator is an easy and economical tool to help lower the risks of long-term damage by detecting high impact hits. Once detected, a player can be assessed quickly, decreasing the chance of an additional concussion or head injury. Using cutting-edge technology, the Impact Indicator utilizes patent-pending micro sensor and software technology to measure and calculate the force and duration of a hit to a player s helmet. In the heat of a game when fast decisions are required and in practices when a coach s attention is divided amongst multiple players and drills, the impact Indicator measures contact at Head Injury Criterion (HIC) levels - the highest and most accepted standard for measuring the likelihood of head injury from an impact. If the Impact Indicator measures a hit sustained at a certain HIC level, an LED light alerts coaches and referees to the possible injury. Coaches and trainers can immediately get a player off the field and into the hands of physicians and trainers who can accurately assess whether a concussion has occurred and treat its symptoms.

Designed for players of all ages, pewee to professional, the Impact Indicator helps parents, players and coaches know when a head injury may have occurred. Developed with the expertise of numerous sensor and hardware manufacturers and software specialists and tested at the acclaimed Biomedical Engineering laboratory at Wayne State University, the Impact Indicator represents a significant advancement in the field of sports safety.

The Impact Indicator is microsensor and intelligent software technology embedded in the chinstrap. It measures the force and duration of a hit, and instantly signals a level of any hit over 240 HICs by illuminating a red LED light on the front of the Indicator easily visible by coaches, officials and other players.

Concussions are increasing and difficult to diagnose.
Multiple concussions bring serious risk. Playing or practicing with a possible head injury comes with huge risks for players. Serious, long-term injuries can result according to the American Academy of Neurologists. The most serious occur when an athlete suffers a second concussion before the symptoms of the first have healed. Called Second-Impact Syndrome, multiple concussions can lead to future problems like depression, dementia and an increased chance of developing Alzheimer s disease. Athletes under 21 are most at risk with statistics showing them to be 4 to 6 times more likely to have another concussion once injured.

Called the invisible injury because it is so difficult to diagnosis (only 10% of concussions result in a loss of consciousness), concussions happen in football and other contact sports at alarming rates today. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 3.8 million sports-related concussions occur each year in the U.S. Adding to the alarm is the estimate that 1/2 of all football-related concussions go undiagnosed* leaving players at risk for additional damage and slowing recovery. Declining school budgets and trainer staff sadly, add to the numbers of injuries that go undiagnosed with estimates reporting only 40% of high school athletes having access to a qualified trainer today.

Exercise 1- Pick A Spot

It is as easy as it sounds! Standing approximately 6-10 feet from any solid wall, focus your attention to a small spot or point about 10 feet from the ground. Practice hitting that spot repeatedly. This is the best way to learn accuracy and throwing efficiency. Count how many times you can hit the spot in ten throws. Challenge yourself, or your friends to see how good you can get!

Exercise 2- Quick Release

Quick reactions are a good football player's best weapon. When a receiver comes open there is no time to spare. On your own or with a friend see how fast you can get the ball out of your hand. Have a friend say "GO!" and get rid of it. Don't hesitate, or your pass will be picked off by the defense!

Exercise 3- Wide Receiver Warm-Up

Stand a minimum of 5 yards (15 feet) from a brick or concrete wall and throw the Passback" football as many times as possible in one minute. You must catch it to count it. Sounds easy right? Wrong! Grab a friend, find a wall and start throwing spirals!

Exercise 4- Quick Reactions

Quick reactions are key to both offensive and defensive players. Stand approximately 5 yards facing the wall. Have a coach, another player or friend stand behind you and throw the ball over your head at the wall. React fast to retrieve the ball as it rebounds off the wall.

Exercise 5- LongSnappers

Spirals are important to more than QB's. Practice long snaps by standing 5-10 yards from a solid wall. Grip the ball with your dominate hand as if you were throwing a football and then place your other hand gently on the ball as a guide. Raise the Passback over your head and then snap the ball to the wall remembering to roll your wrists down as the ball leaves your fingers.
